( polyphony )

Gothic elongated bodies, perspectives distorted with virtuosity, singular beings with piercing looks in their eyes lost in a vacuum. In times where you don’t know what’s in store for you, it seems only logical to be inspired by the revolutionaries of form, line or perspective. In the rooms of the Leopold Museum, there where usually we find ourselves impressed by works bearing names that sound like direct instructions for action and in which the carnal nature of the bodies is celebrated in sombre colours, Liquid Loft sets utopian characters in scene with focus on the bodily, while shunning everything ornamental.

Eight acoustically interwoven solos in separately accessible rooms grow together over the course of the performance into a choreographic canon. The performers move, apparently without link to the outside world, in an autark, closed sound-system, surrounded only by the mysteries of the mental spaces of their own world experience. The certain knowledge that contact to human dreams and desires can only be established through a precise analysis of the outside carries these bizarre figures through the evening.

When our senses can no longer keep up processing the upheavals in the world, the obvious becomes questionable, unnatural, vulnerable. Already in the works of Schiele, but also in Nietzsche or Freud we find the idea of the once formed and codified person no longer tenable. The individual becomes divided, the body a last refuge. Only in phases of smoldering silence and slow-motion can we detect the traces of expressive distortion in it.
