In “bodies (with)in fences”, Saskia Hölbling and Laurent Goldring search for new anchors and territories without wanting to compete with the shrill seduction strategies of urban space. The performance space is far removed from any glamor and luxury, far removed from any “comfort zone”. A monument made of building grids opens up – entirely in its function as a multiple barrier – spaces and volumes of exclusion or exhibition. It creates its own guidance systems or raises walls.
In the middle of this monumental sculpture, which sets almost insurmountable boundaries, three bodies set about dissecting their rigid surroundings incessantly and repeatedly; they plow their way through multi-layered barriers and thus keep the system in suspense. With “bodies (with)in fences”, Saskia Hölbling and Laurent Goldring create a delicate but noisy piece that creates a perpetuum mobile through an impassable control loop that inevitably leads to a dead end.
