meubles parlantes

milan design week

Inspired by the “meubles parlantes”, talking furniture with inlays of poems, proverbs and inscriptions – a craft very popular during classicism and the art nouveau era – the choreographer Chris Haring and the electronic musician Andreas Berger produce a living space, originally created for the Milan Design Week. The character of this staging – strongly related to that of an installation – sets the individual exhibits into an unusual context. Acoustic intervention brings objects to live. An organic “living room” comes into existence. The artistic interpretation transforms the exhibition space into a sonic landscape, the character of design objects get shifted, making them communicate amongst each other, following the motto: what is our furniture doing, when we are not around?
