museum spaces

Site-specific performance in exhibition space.
First created for the re-opening of the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris.

Eight acoustically interwoven solos in separately accessible rooms grow together over the course of the performance into a choreographic canon. The performers move, with no apparent link to the outside world, in a self-sufficient, closed sound-system, surrounded only by the mysteries of the mental spaces of their own world experience. Knowing that contact to human dreams and desires can only be established through a precise analysis of the outside carries these bizarre figures through the evening.

For the re-opening of the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, Liquid Loft was invited to develop a performance in dialogue with the architecture of the space and the works of modern arts which are exhibited there. While in Leopoldmuseum, Stand-Alones was conceived for an empty exhibition space devoid of any paintings, at Musée d’Art Moderne the works of the collection were present. Still, no conscious references were made by the dancers to the paintings. However, through Liquid Loft’s performance, the audience was able to perceive the collection in different ways: the presence of the performer in space creates slight shifts of perspective, concentration or influences how long one chooses to dwell in the shred space.  In particular the sound environment created by Liquid Loft, which connected the spaces acoustically, offered new associations with regards to the exhibition.
